Food is a Human Right

At The Food Source Foundation, we believe that access to nourishing food is a basic human right—not a privilege. We are a non-profit organization committed to addressing food insecurity in Olympia, WA and surrounding communities by filling critical gaps in local food distribution.

Our Mission

Our mission is to ensure that everyone—regardless of income, housing status, or employment—has equitable access to healthy, wholesome food. We provide food to all community members without question. There are no barriers, no judgment, and no restrictions—just good food for anyone who needs it.

Letter from the Director

On September 10th, 2023 I started a group called Souper Sunday. The idea felt like a calling and listening to and acting upon it has been the best decision of my life. The idea was to make soup for my community for free and that would really do something. Soup is available to anyone who wants or needs it without restriction.

The group really took off after grass roots interest, some press and then a news story that has garnered 1.7 million views to date. It became obvious that people were hungry for connection with their community and a sense of hope.

As the group developed I began to see a need above and beyond soup. I began distributing free groceries to food insecure neighbors. And the need manifested in a way I had not expected. I was surprised at how many of the people coming to me for food support were fully employed. They have been priced out of their basic needs by high rent, a car payment, insurance and basic bills. A large number of hard-working community members literally had no money left for food after the most basic bills are paid.

In December of 2024 I established The Food Source Foundation, a 501(c) non-profit with the mission of addressing the growing food insecurity in our community. We can accept grants, cash donations from individuals, cash from banks, credit unions, local businesses and food from grocery stores and restaurants etc. Every contribution to the foundation is tax deductible.

Please join us in creating community, helping your neighbors and being the change that you want to see in the world. We need this more now than ever!
